Melissa Machado is a mother of two spririted young children and she and her husband have been a couple for almost 20 years (since attending Staten Island Technical High School together). Melissa went on to graduate Magna cum laude with a B.A. in English Literature and Secondary Education from Russell Sage College. After teaching middle school for several years, she decided to be a stay-at-home mother in order to nurture herself and her family. While on childcare leave from teaching, Melissa volunteered in her community, teaching Spanish to preschoolers and coordinating playgroups for the Holistic Moms Network (HMN). HMN provides community support from other Holistic Moms, both locally and nationally, which helped guide Melissa to an ever-more holistic lifestyle. Now that the children are nearing school-age, Melissa is currently working on earning an M.A. from the College of Staten Island. She is a graduate of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York City which is the only nutrition school integrating all the different dietary theories. It combines the knowledge of traditional philosophies with modern concepts like the USDA food pyramid, the glycemic index, the Zone and raw foods. Ever since she began her own journey to health, Melissa has been passing on vital information to her friends and family. Making a career as a certified Holistic Health Counselor is simply an official title for what has already become her passion in life.
